What to Look For, What to Avoid
Supplement quality varies widely. A few simple checks will steer you toward products that actually contain a therapeutic amount of the active ingredient.
What to look for
- At least 3% standardized hyperforin — the compound shown to affect depression in clinical studies. (Note that some products standardized only to 0.3% hypericin may contain little or no hyperforin.)
- A manufacturer with real quality-control standards and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) certification.
- Companies that share detailed product information, clinical-trial data, and an honest discussion of safety and side effects.
- Dark or amber bottles that block light, plus cool storage — both protect hyperforin from degrading.
- A reputable vendor with a clear refund policy.
What to avoid
- "Salesy" websites with no research citations or safety information.
- Products claiming 100% cure rates, zero side effects, or no drug interactions — none of which is realistic.
- White plastic packaging that lets light through.
