Other Medical Uses

Hyperforin may be useful for the treatment of addictions, such as alcoholism1,2 and nicotine, although the dosage, safety and efficacy have not been studied.

Hyperforin may be useful in treating premenstrual syndrome3 with similar mechanism of actions to other prescription antidepressants. More studies need to be done before conclusive evidence can be determined whether or not Hyperforin may help manage the symptoms of ADHD and OCD.

Hyperforin, when applied topically, has also been found to alleviate inflammation and eczema, possibly decrease nerve and muscle pain, and possibly have antibacterial properties which may help fight off infections resulting from burns and accelerate healing of burns.4,5
